Strength

Stronger than the standard asks.

A board is bent until it breaks. IS 2095 sets the least load that it must carry.

Pro Max: 15.3 kg, 1220 × 1830 × 12 mm. Gujarat boards are unbranded: 17 to 18 kg per board is what we see in the market. Per square metre, Pro Max is 6.85 kg at 12 mm; Gyproc publishes 7.56 kg for its 12.5 mm plain board. Choose the frame from the section maker’s span table.

Inside the board

Paper. Gypsum. Paper.

Gypsum is set between two papers. Made on German machinery, with selected paper and chemicals.

Back paper
Brown. It carries our logo.
Gypsum core
Made with 100% natural gypsum. The crystals lock together as the core sets: a solid core that resists sag.
Face paper
Ivory and smooth. This is the side that you see and paint.

Drawing of one board, not to scale: the board is 12 mm thick. The long edges are tapered and wrapped in paper.

A hand starts the tear at the end of the top PRO-MAX tape; the tape opens along its middle line

Zip tape.
Tear once.

One 24 mm tape closes each pair of boards at the two short ends. Start the tear at one end of the tape. It runs along the middle to the other end, and the pair comes apart. No knife.

The frame

Frame it right.

A flat ceiling starts with a level frame. Metal-Max sections, marked METAL-MAX.

Eight rules for a flat ceiling.

  1. Fix the perimeter channel level on all walls.
  2. Hang the intermediate channels straight and level.
  3. Clip each ceiling section. Do not leave one loose.
  4. Lay the boards across the ceiling sections.
  5. Stagger the end joints from row to row.
  6. Keep screws 10 mm from a bound edge and 13 mm from a cut edge.
  7. Set each screw head just under the paper.
  8. Tape and fill every joint before you paint.

Common practice for a 12 mm board. The span and the load set the final spacing: use the Metal-Max table for your ceiling.

Questions

What contractors ask.

How strong is it?

It carries more than 660 N along the board and more than 280 N across it before it breaks. IS 2095 asks 500 N and 180 N of a 12.5 mm board.

What size is the board?

1220 × 1830 mm, 12 mm thick. That is 4 ft by 6 ft: 24 sq ft.

What does one board weigh?

15.3 kg. A Gujarat board of the same size is 17 to 18 kg.

How do I open a pair of boards?

Start the tear at one end of the end tape. The tape opens along its middle, from one end to the other. You do not need a knife.

Which side faces the room?

The ivory face. The brown back, with our logo, goes against the frame.

Where do I use it?

Inside the building, in dry areas: false ceilings, partitions, wall lining, bulkheads and coves.

Can I use it in a bathroom or outside?

No. Pro Max is a standard board for dry internal areas.

What frame do I need?

Galvanised steel ceiling sections or partition studs. A lighter board puts less weight on the frame. Common practice is intermediate channels at 1220 mm and ceiling sections at 457 mm, and studs at 610 mm. Use the Metal-Max table for your span. We make Metal-Max sections at Panvel.

How do I cut it?

Score the face paper with a knife along a straightedge. Snap the board. Cut the back paper.

How do I fix it?

With drywall screws into the steel sections. Set each head just under the paper. Do not break the paper.

How do I hide the joints?

Put joint tape and joint compound in the tapered joint. Let it dry, sand it lightly, then prime and paint.

How do I store it?

Flat, off the floor, under cover. Do not stand the boards on edge.

Where do I buy it?

From Sai India Gypsum at Panvel, supplied to any place. Send us a WhatsApp message.
